2013 promises to bring gamer’s a wealth of new indie titles to experience and one of the standouts has to be Apotheon from Alientrap. This 2D platform action-rpg, due to be released through Steam later this year, is shaping up to be one of the most stunning with it’s fantastic graphics and rich game world inspired by classic Greek mythology. According to the developer, you play as “humanity’s last champion…bent on ending the wrath of the Gods…With sword, spear, and shield in hand, you will sneak, conspire, loot, and battle your way through majestic palaces and chthonic depths as you climb towards godhood.” Sounds like awesome sauce to me!
Apotheon is slated to feature a large, open-world single-player campaign where you climb your way to the top of Mount Olympus. RPG elements are incorporated as your “hero” gains additional divine powers while fighting off the hordes of deadly mythological enemies. More interesting than that, if that’s even possible, is Alientrap’s decision to incorporate an online multiplayer element into Apotheon with team and deathmatch modes featuring tactical Bronze Age “sword & spear” type combat. Exciting stuff to be sure!
Now comes the part in the article where I inject a little bit of the 30PlusGamer angle into it and openly wonder if the classic Greek mythos and gameworld will appeal to the younger gaming crowd or is this game made almost entirely for our target market – the over 30’s? So I ask:
