After Don Mattrick left Microsoft a couple of weeks ago there were a ton of rumors regarding his successor.
One of the names mentioned was Julie Larson-Green. This has now been made official through a memo along with a reorganization within Microsoft. The purpose of this restructure is to bring all the different divisions within the company closer together and let them function more unified instead of solitary.
“We are rallying behind a single strategy as one company — not a collection of divisional strategies. Although we will deliver multiple devices and services to execute and monetize the strategy, the single core strategy will drive us to set shared goals for everything we do. We will see our product line holistically, not as a set of islands”
According to the memo Julie Larson-Green will be leading a new department called “Devices and Studios Engineering group”. This department will cover everything entertainment related (music, movies, games, … ).
“Devices and Studios Engineering Group. Julie Larson-Green will lead this group and will have all hardware development and supply chain from the smallest to the largest devices we build. Julie will also take responsibility for our studios experiences including all games, music, video and other entertainment “
Julie Larson-Green (born in 1962) works at Microsoft for 19 years, first joining back in 1993 as a program manager for Visual C++. In 1997 she joined the Office team leading UI design for Office XP, Office 2003 and Office 2007.
Do you believe she has what it takes to bring Microsoft where it needs to go?
