Remember during E3 when the Microsoft and Sony introduced the Xbox One and PS4 systems respectively for the first time? The Xbox One appeared first, but there was some controversy regarding the internet connection and used game fees. Then the PS4 came out and it made no controversies about these two events (because there weren’t any), and the killer blow was that it was $100 cheaper.
Or so it seemed.
Even with the required Kinect connection and a $499 price tag, Microsoft managed to sell more than 2.1 million Xbox One units in 18 days. That’s a far cry from getting a killer blow. In fact, it sold just as well as its rival, the PS4, also at around 2.1 million (maybe a bit more). So far, the prediction is that the PS4 will have a slight edge over the Xbox One by year’s end.
So why is the Xbox One actually doing well even after the $100 “killer blow” from the PS4? Some factors to consider:
- Exclusives. The Xbox One does have some exclusives to boast such as Killer Instinct, a fighting-game legend from its former Nintendo flagship. Of course, there is also Halo, in which no doubt that there are legions of fans waiting for Halo 5 to come out. Others include Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, and Dead Rising 3 (so far).
- 8 controllers. Crazy, huh? This is perfect for sports games, especially Madden, NBA 2KXX, WWE, etc., but you might want to have some friends that actually have the controllers to come over since the controllers themselves actually cost the same as the latest games ($59.99).
- Loyalty/History. It’s kind of hard to let go when you’re accustomed with the system that you’re familiar with since its inception. You’re familiar with the exclusives from past systems, as well as Achievement points, online friends, and the controller itself. Some gamers may not understand why older gamers have a love for Nintendo despite the Wii U not doing so well; well, your answer is right there, and you’re now getting the taste of it.
So, Xbox One owners… despite the $100 difference, why did you go for the system of choice instead of the PS4?
