Ventura Nationals • Cruizers, Sleds, Bombers, VWs’ And Trucks At Ventura Fairgrounds
(Photos by Darr Hawthorne) • It’s great to have the awesome shows coming back, but one thing is clear, hot rodders, painters and customizers have spent their time well, working and finishing their builds. The 2022 Ventura Nationals, held on the beach at the Ventura, California Fairgrounds was packed with some of the finest examples of today’s Kustom Kulture.
There were more finished and painted rods than we’ve seen recently at this yearly event on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. The attention to detail and quality of paint was amazing to see, inside and out of the old WW2 buildings. No wonder it is so difficult to get a car painted in California today. Rockabilly bands play all day and the beer flows deep.
Even with the heatwave blanketing the West, it’s always cooler at the beach and to avoid the bumper-to-bumper traffic, Amtrak will drop you right across the street from the Show Entrance. If you plan to stay over until Sunday, a lot of the participants cruise on a Reliability Run, out of a park in Downtown Ventura.
